What does a radio drama feel like when you don’t just listen to it, but step inside it? For “REM” by Sebastian Fitzek and Annika Strauss, we had the opportunity to make exactly that possible together with our client Audible. What began as a request in December gradually became reality from January onwards. Together with “theroomlabs,” we developed the concept, dramaturgy, and spaces down to the smallest detail – with great attention to craftsmanship and a clear goal: to turn audio into a real-life experience. Around 80 running meters of walls were handcrafted, wallpapered, burned, and plastered. In this way, the Hôtel de Ville became a place that you don’t just see, but hear – and feel. Built-in loudspeakers throughout the space made the radio drama continuously tangible, filling the rooms with sound, voices, and atmosphere. An immersive listening experience that accompanied the story at every moment. On approximately 100 square meters, around 600 delighted guests were able to experience “REM” live – as a fusion of audio drama and escape room. Four weeks, two cities: First Berlin, then Munich.
